CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - Los Angeles, CA Annual salary: $175,000 - $250,000 (DOQ), plus excellent benefits. Since 1948, the Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Los Angeles (CRA/LA) has been Los Angeles’ public partner in housing, commercial, neighborhood and economic development. Working collaboratively with other City departments involved in housing and economic development, CRA/LA is dedicated to revitalizing, refurbishing, and renewing economically underserved areas of Los Angeles. CRA/LA projects and programs increase the supply of housing for low and moderate–income families, provide infrastructure for commercial and industrial development and create quality jobs through development. Our mission is to make strategic investments to create economic opportunity and improve the quality of life for the people who live and work in our neighborhoods.
CRA/LA seeks to hire a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This position represents an exceptional opportunity to direct the 265 member staff in eliminating blighting conditions in residential and commercial communities and promoting economic growth and job generation for CRA/LA and the City of Los Angeles both in current environment and as the real estate market returns. The CEO will work in close collaboration with the Office of Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and also reports to a Mayoral appointed and very knowledgeable Board of Commissioners. The CEO will have an extraordinary level of visibility and close interaction with the CRA/LA Board of Commissioners, the 15-member Los Angeles City Council, other elected and public officials in City, County, State and the Federal government and Executive staff from other City departments involved in housing and economic development. The CEO will also serve as a member of the Mayor’s Economic Development Cabinet.
The ideal CEO candidate will be a strong leader in land use and redevelopment, finance and budget, community and economic development, personnel, and project management. The candidate will also have strong knowledge in redevelopment and community and economic development. Previous executive experience in a California agency, county or municipality is desirable and a Bachelor’s degree in business or public administration or a related field is required. An MA/MS, MBA, JD or comparable advanced degree is highly preferable.
